Before you travel to Rapa Nui

Entry requirements

They are checked at the counter in Santiago, before you board. They apply to everyone, Chilean or foreign.

• FUI. The Single Entry Form is filled in online, free of charge, with the PDI before your flight. Without an approved FUI you will not be allowed to board.
• Return ticket. Round trip, with the return within the permitted stay.
• Registered accommodation. A booking with a provider registered with SERNATUR, or an invitation letter from a Rapa Nui resident.
• Maximum stay. 30 days for tourists; only extended in cases of force majeure.

National Park

• Park ticket. Bought separately, ideally online before you travel. It is personal, valid for 10 consecutive days and allows a single visit to Rano Raraku and to Orongo: save them for an unhurried tour.
• Accredited guide. Mandatory to enter the park's sites, and checked at every entrance. Renting a car does not replace it.
• Respect. The moai and the ahu are never touched or stepped on, and you stay on the paths.

Weather and packing

Subtropical climate: mild all year round, with an almost constant wind and short showers in any month. The sun is strong even when it is cloudy.

• Closed shoes with a good sole: the ground is volcanic and uneven.
• A windbreaker or light rain jacket, and layers.
• Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
• Mosquito repellent and a reusable bottle.

SAG restrictions

• You cannot bring honey or its by-products, uncertified wood, or fresh plant or animal products. SAG inspects luggage at boarding.
• You cannot take away stones, coral or archaeological material. It is not a souvenir: it is heritage.

Money and connectivity

Money. You pay in Chilean pesos and prices are higher than on the mainland. Bring cash: small shops and artisans do not always take cards.

Connectivity. There is internet in Hanga Roa, but there is barely any signal at the park's sites. Download offline maps and your ticket's QR code beforehand.
